The Infrastructure That Made ABA Direct Possible
Every successful organization has people working behind the scenes to keep it moving. In the field of behavior analysis, that work can determine whether clinicians have the support they need, employees are paid on time, and families can access services without unnecessary delays.
Before a provider can begin serving families, there are billing systems to establish, employees to credential, payroll processes to manage, and services to market within the community. Each function requires time, expertise, and careful attention—and the demands only increase as an organization grows.
For our founder and CEO, Patrick Thorbourne, that behind-the-scenes infrastructure became one of the defining advantages of building ABA Direct through Hi-5 ABA. It provided access to established systems and specialized support that would otherwise have taken considerable time and painstaking effort to develop independently. This gave Patrick greater freedom to lead his team, support families, and protect the quality of care as ABA Direct grew.
Prepared to Lead
Patrick describes his first impression of Hi-5 ABA as a “breath of fresh air.” The organization already had the operational framework needed to support a growing ABA practice. But he was not simply handed a set of processes and expected to figure them out on his own.
Over approximately 10 to 12 weeks, he was introduced to the administrative infrastructure and operational processes behind the model. He gained a clear understanding of the resources and experienced teams available to support him. By the time ABA Direct began growing, Patrick was not only prepared to use the model but also confident that the operational demands of growth would not have to consume the time and attention he wanted to give his staff and the families they served.
More Than a Collection of Services
The magnitude of that support became especially clear in daily operations. Billing, credentialing, marketing, and payroll were not simply additional services available when needed. They represented entire areas of responsibility that Patrick did not have to build and manage alone.
Without that structure, each new stage of growth could have created another operational burden. Adding staff would also have meant expanding payroll responsibilities. Reaching more families would have required a stronger marketing strategy. Working with insurers would have brought credentialing requirements and ongoing billing demands. Any one of these areas could consume a leader’s time; together, they could easily have pulled attention away from employees, families, and the quality of services being provided. With specialized teams carrying much of that operational load, Patrick could keep his attention on precisely those priorities. The support did not diminish his responsibility for ABA Direct; it gave him greater capacity to lead it intentionally.
The Foundation for Sustainable Growth
When Patrick reflects on ABA Direct’s growth, the value of the partnership is difficult to reduce to any single department or service. Its impact comes from the way each part works together. The training provided direction. The systems created consistency. The specialized teams supplied knowledge and capacity that would have been difficult for one person to replicate.
For ABA Direct, the people working behind the scenes do more than keep daily operations running. By carrying responsibilities that might otherwise compete for Patrick’s attention, they give him greater capacity to lead his team, support families, and protect the quality of services being provided. That freedom has created a strong foundation for ABA Direct to grow sustainably without losing sight of the people at the center of its work.
